The DITALS Certification

Ditals examination center florence

The DITALS certification is obtained by taking a Certification exam that is structured on two levels.

Once this Certification Exam has been taken and passed, the participant will hold a CULTURAL QUALIFICATION.

Level I DITALS Certification
attests to a basic competence in the field of teaching languages together with a specific didactic skill in teaching Italian to foreigners, these students having a precise ‘profile’ (children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, immigrants, university students, students of Italian origin and students of a different mother tongue including: Chinese, Arabic and Japanese students, tourism and hotel operators, from the Catholic religious order and ‘USA’ students - University Study Abroad).

Level II DITALS Certification
is an advanced qualification in teaching Italian to foreigners and is for teachers who can work in any teaching context and with any group of students. Some of the prerequisites for admission to the Level II exam can be replaced by the Level I certification.

If candidates do not possess one or more of the necessary requirements to take the examination,   they must pass the DITALS I exam and possess an appropriate university degree. Candidates will then be able to take the DITALS II exam.

I attended the DITALS Preparation Course in Scuola Leonardo da Vinci in Florence in 2012. I found myself in a joyful and stimulating environment, with many students who were enthusiastic about studying Italian and many good teachers, always ready to help. The lecturers provided us with the necessary tools to get ready to the exam in the best way possible. The course was really formative: I learnt a lot enjoying the time thanks to the high level of professionallity of the teachers. Taking a course and doing my internship in this school gave me the opportunity of growing professionally speaking. I recommend anyone interested in working in this field to go through this kind of experience and attend this course!
